5 Essentials for Every Dance Bag

Whether you are packing up your young dancer for class or getting yourself together for your third dance class that week, there are some essentials to double check that you have before you head to class in order to feel prepared and ready.

Many dancers know that they should be prepared for class, but outside of wearing appropriate dancewear and shoes, they are often unclear what should go in their dance bag.

In over thirty years of teaching dance, we have narrowed down the items that you should put in your dance bag today so that you’re ready for your next class. They break down into five main categories.

Make sure to have:

1. Dance Shoes!! all of them!

It’s easier just to keep all of your dance shoes in your dance bag and pull out the ones as needed instead of swapping out shoes before each class. Have them all in there and you are ready for anything! Oh, and it should go without saying, but make sure that you have both shoes in each pair. You’d be amazed how many times dancers only have one shoe of the pair.

2. Extra Dance Clothes

You never know what can happen to your leotard and tights, so it’s always a good idea to have an extra set in your bag. Between weather, spills, and any of the other “life” things that occur, having an extra set is always a good thing. And has it happened before that a dancer has come in with tights on under her clothes and no leotard? Yes. Yes it has.

3. Hair supplies (brush, comb, elastic ties, bobby/hair pins, hairspray, etc.)

Buy a new pack of hair ties, bobby pins, and a brush and leave them in your dance bag. It’s also good to check before winter break if you need to refill any of these items.

4. First Aid (band aids, antiseptic wipes/ointment, tissues)

Again, life happens. Good to have a small first aid kit with the needed supplies.

5. Water Bottle

We work hard in class! Make sure to have a water bottle to stay hydrated. Of course, other types of food or drinks aren’t welcome in the studios, but water is a necessity.

Stock Up

In our Chatham, NJ studio you’ll find dance wear, dance bags, and dance shoes to get you prepared for class. Stop by during our Open House or on the first weeks of class!

Without any of these supplies, your dance class can be more stressful than it needs to be. Don’t freak out five minutes before class asking around for a hair tie. Plus, it will pull your focus away from the work that you are trying to concentrate on.

When you have all of these five categories taken care of in your dance bag, you can feel confident that you are ready for class and ready to dance!
